1977 Z1000A1 Tank

Hi does anyone have a decent (hens teeth!!) Z1000A1 tank. I had mine painted by Flying Tiger, a cracking job, but unfortunately now a good many years later the tank is now porus and the paint is bubbling in a couple of spots. I had the tank sealed by a 'supposedly' professional company but they made a complete botch of it and ended up cutting up the tank to seal it. So I doubt if its worth having another go. Z Power can get them new but they are a bit hit and miss according to Phil and I'd rather not go down that route if it might ruin another paint job.

I have often thought about all these rusted tanks, I wonder why someone has made a bag to go inside and be blown to shape or injection moulded type of affair and still be able to use the old tank as a outer case, I know it doesn't help your cause but a good conversation

Hi
Have you found a tank yet?
I bought one for my 1976 Z900 so that I could use my bike while mine was off being painted.

Ended up the painter wasn’t busy and completed mine in a week so I never used the one I bought.

If you still need it I’ll sell you this one.

Regards Derrick

an a1 tank is a very different tank and a one year only specimen, it's physically similar looking to the z9 tank with a screw tap fitting (but the underside profile is totally different) and has on/off/res positions: the a2 tank has a 2 bolt fitting tap with vacuum facility n prime option..apart from that they're identical! I'm off to wash my anorak. m
