RHS UPPER AND LOWER EXHAUSTS - 1976 Z900

ALL YOU GUYS THAT HAVE BOUGHT NEW EXHAUST SYSTEMS MAY HAVE ONE OR BOTH OF THE RHS EXHAUSTS FROM YOUR 1973 Z1 TO 1977 Z900 GATHERING DUST THAT MIGHT BE IN USEABLE CONDITION AND SUITABLE FOR ME TO USE. IF YOU DO AND WOULD LIKE TO CONVERT THEM TO CASH PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I NEED THE UPPER AND LOWER RHS FOR A 1976 Z900

Many thanks for posting the link. Most appreciated. The 1976 KZ900 had a removable baffle which a 1973 to 1975 Z1 doesn't. If it wasn't over a third of the price of a complete replica set I would still probably go for it but because it is a) not quite correct and b) on the expensive side I am going to make him an offer and see where we go.

So still looking and quite happy to pay good money for the right pair of 1976 RHS pipes.

Very early Z1 had rivots in them ,but came out & so did the baffle & were replaced with a bolt so they could be removed , dont no when , probably after a few 2K , but someone will know ,theres information on kawasaki-z- classic.com & the baffles were apparently dark green -http://kawasaki-z-classik.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=2176&hilit=baffles you may have register to see this page ,copy & paste

Are you looking for original exhausts, or reproductions.
Which model do you have ? A picture of what you are trying to match may help - as Z1 exhausts are different from Z1A / Z1B, different again to Z900A4.

The left hand side is unaffected. It is bizarre. The left exhaust do not have any of the corrosion the right hand side has. The bike has been stored since the 70's and only covered 3472 miles from new so maybe the RHS came in contact to damp air during storage.

I don't mind replicas but if i can get a good pair of originals that will be preferable.

I am going to remove the RHS exhausts and repair them which is the easy part. Getting someone to re-chrome them is the difficult part as everyone i have approached think they might contaminate their tanks but if the baffles are removed surely they can be chemically cleaned or ultrasound cleaned first? I have no knowledge of how this is done but structurally they are very sound and of course being original have the visible stamping 76 etc that all original exhaust have and replicas don;t so i want to give it a go. It is not very often that one finds an original bike. The front mudguard is from an LTD and apparently the front indicators should be longer but with USA bikes they often came out of the factory with different parts fitted. The levers for examples still have the original plastic fitted so it seems odd they would have changed indicators. The mudguard may have been a personal choice as it looks good.

I actually want a 750 H2C and bought this as a stop gap bike as I like original condition bikes. I am in two minds about keeping it so while i decide I have been sourcing bits and pieces and each time I get a piece I need think about keeping it. I have found a NOS rear lens and a re-chromed original front mudguard for example. I want £9995.00 to part with it and have been offered very close but that's my price otherwise I will regret letting it go. There are plenty of people that don't have £18K for a restored example and this is an easy bike to detail and it will always be low mileage.

So if anyone can help with a good used pair of exhausts for the RHS that will tick that box.

Forget the H2 and keep the A4.

A word of warning concerning re-chroming, you can get them done at 'Marque Restore' in Coventry but, and it's a big but, you may end up with a large bill and some scrap exhausts!
I sent two systems to them in October, a really solid Z1000a1 set and a set from a CBX1000 that looked repairable (a bit like yours).
The Z thou pipes came back mint but the CBX ones were scrap, loads of rot appeared after they had been cleaned and de-chromed etc, not the fault of the chromer's, just the risk you take.
The original estimate for the work was £1500 for the two sets (two systems plus heat shields etc and a headlight rim) but the final bill was £1200 because they had to go so far before the repair guy said they were too far gone.
The up-side is I have a mint original exhaust for the A1 but I've had to buy a repro set for the CBX.
I am not saying don't go down this route, just be aware.
I'm not slagging off 'Marque Restore' either, they can only work with what they are given.

Early Z1 never had the stamping, so your exhausts are most likely off a z900 as 76 is 1976 .Try & have a ride on a h2 before buying , if set up well they are bearable to ride if not they are awful .

Keep in mind that a tatty (some rust and maybe small holes) OEM 4/4 system sells for around the cost of a new repro system. (@ £1250)
The last new OEM 4/4 set I last saw for sale, went for £2600.
If you want to ride the repro systems are a much better bet as they last much longer.
