Z900 1976 chain guard, NOW Found one at Z Power

#1 PostAuthor: Dero » Sat Jul 11, 2020 9:05 am

Good Morning all.

Would anyone have a Chain Guard for a 1976 Z900 they would like to sell?

Last bit of the Rebuild except for a couple of wheels to replace my Lester alloys.

Please contact me if you have a chain guard OR if you have a couple of wheels (single would do) or even the hubs and I will get them rebuilt.
Drum rear brake and a twin disc set up at the front (6 Bolts holding the disc on)

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Can't help with the spares, but depending how accurate you want to be a '76 Z900 should have four bolts holding the discs on not the earlier six bolt version.

I did wonder about the disc.
Maybe the Lester wheels only take the 6 bolt disc?

If I can only get the 4 bolt disc wheel that would suffice.

Just as a matter of interest do you know which model the 6 bolt disc was fitted to?

Correct Lester wheels for the Z900's had the standard four bolt discs.
Your Lesters must be for one the earlier models, i.e. Z1, Z1A & Z1B. These all had the thicker, six bolt discs. A single disc was standard on these models too. However, the original hubs like the Lesters should be drilled & tapped ready for the second disc if required.

Four bolts discs are also thinner than earlier six bolt discs, can't remember the exact difference, but it something like 6.5mm for the earlier models & 5mm for the Z900-A4 & later Z1000's.
That is except for the USA market Z900-A4's which although four bolt fixings, still only had one disc as standard & they were the thicker disc, not the UK/European thinner 5mm disc.

Hi Dero,

I have a newly re chromed Takasago front rim with a 6B (I think it’s B but can check, it might be 6G) marking which I now won’t be using. I also have a really nice 4 bolt front hub to suit and both are for sale. I didn’t spoke the rim but if required I could build the wheel with new spokes and nipples.

The rim is really nice and was show chromed at Prestige electro plating in Mexborough. Under strict instructions, the rim markings were not polished out and are still present.

PM me if you’re interested. Cheers.

Hi Dero,

I forgot to mention that I also have a nice complete front wheel with an unmarked non Takasago chrome rim with standard zinc plated spokes and nice 4 bolt hub. It might be a cheaper option.

I would part with the letters but can’t do anything until I get a set of wires.

I’ll let you know once I have some then if you haven’t found a pair mine will be available.

Regards

If anyone's interested, I have a set of Melber alloys I bought for my Z1-B in 1976 which were never fitted. The front had a bearing fitted but that's about it. I have no idea what they're worth but I haven't seen any up for sale on ebay. They are still in "unused " condition.
