Hi all, I'm new to the club and hope you guys could help me out. I'm looking for a z1000/kz1000ltd 1978-1980 project or at least the best place/company to look for one.
I have been looking at DK motorcycles but have heard some horror stories about them. Could anybody point me in the right direction. Thanks. Joe.

You might get some ok out of DK just bear in mind you’ve heard horror stories and don’t assume because if a description says “Fires up with Eazi Start” it doesn’t mean it’s a runner and won’t need a complete rebuild. If you assume everything might be broken even it looks okay and can find something you think is viable bearing all that in mind then happy days. And make sure you see it in the flesh ask for opinion on here before actually buying...

Thanks for the advice. I was hoping there might be another couple of shops that the good people on here might know of.

I got my 1969 H*nda CL450 project from Summerbud in Leamington, who import classics from the USA by the container load. their Facebook page showed the latest arrivals including a Z1000 (just on a list, no photo yet that I've seen).
Although I have bought parts from DK, and found them very good to deal with if there are any problems, I preferred something that hadn't been fired up with Easystart after years of slumber and probably bone dry oil wise, other than some sludge in the sump. My Cl was advertised as 'turns over and has compression but no attempt has been made to start the engine' which is just what I needed to hear - it was coming apart anyway. I definitely didn't want a weather seized bike, though people on here have made a sucess of them.
I bought the bike unseen from an eBay ad, something I'd said I'd never do. My mate Mark, who is in the bike trade, went down in a van, with cash and instructions to do a runner if the bike turned out to be a nightmare. He said it was a very slick operation - they asked him ‘which bike?’, put it in his van, money and paperwork changed hands and he was away - ‘next!’. That bike turned out to be very low mileage, and is now my daily driver of choice.
