According to John Brookes it's 92075-007 and was available to Euro Z1's most of which had a separate steering-lock key.

As marmk said repros are available from Australia at just under £40 including postage

Does look odd though with just a hole there. I made up an oval rubber plug to fit so it's hidden.

This looks like it might fit. The central hole will squish (technical engineering term) to an elongated key shaped slot if its a tight fit. They also do lots of other soft rubber grommets of various sizes.

USA bikes only used 1 key for all locks but for some odd reason in Europe they used a Niemann type steering lock which had its own key.
I cannot be sure on this but my theory was that the rubber bung was offered so that the Niemann key could be fitted here if the rider had 2 keys on one keyring. Therefore the Niemann key would not rub against the idiot panel scuffing it or obscuring the 4 lights. Who knows? Only KHI would know why this 'KEY HOLDER' hole was added

Hi men

I did read somewhere, I don't know where it was, that the people in the US had the habit of leaving the key in the ignition switch when the bike was in their garage.
To prevent the inside of the lock being damaged (little tiny springs) by the key when it sat there for days, weeks, months,... Kawasaki made a "key hole" in the cockpit of the Z1 and provided the rubber bung to put the key in.
This is what I read somewhere, I didn't made it up.
If it's "fake" don't blame me.

Hi Philippe,
Nice story :D but unlikely :(
part number for the rubber is 92075-007 and this part number was never quoted in Kawasaki's USA "Parts retail price guide". In other words it wasn't offered for sale in USA.
