Gray17 wrote:Thanks for the offer Nigel, the one Haydn sent me, is great but doesnt fit my model its slightly too big, just my luck, although it is correct one for my bike an Z900 A4, my guess prev owner put on wrong Tailpiece as per earlier model but cant confirm that as looked at both models on ebay and some have the more flat type whilst others of both models have the more curved type. Theres no continuity. So not sure which type is correct for which model.
My problem mines been fully re painted in correct diamond green with laquered graphics to late now to change it, even Shaun Dewis who did a fantastic job on my paintwork didn't notice, so really not sure ir its the Tray or the tailpiece, or do i try and trim it to fit?
More probs to sort. Anyone have the sizes if both so i can compare May just have to live without the tray!

The Z900 tail and the earlier Z1 tail are different in terms of the shape at the light end of the ducktail and the doc tray opening.

A picture of the tail would be helpful.

The Z1 through Z1B all had the original styling with the flicked up tailpiece and under tank seams. The A4 and Z10000A1/2 had the edge seam tank and the flatter tailpiece. There were some detail differences between models but this was the basic style.
The early tailpiece was much better looking and was the designer’s original vision. They look similar but if compared side by side the flatter one completely changes the stance of the bike - for the worse in my opinion - why Kawasaki messed with the original lines which were bang on is anybody’s guess. That’s a reason why someone might fit an early tailpiece to a later bike it’s a far better line, although if painted in the correct colours most people won’t even notice.

Z1 - Z1B shaped to fit the oval tail light. Z900A4-5 shaped to fit the more rectangular tail light which was also used on the Z650 and Z1000

To be honest i couldnt tell the difference myself, but now youve said mine is the more curved version, when i got the bike prev owner i think had tried to convert it to a Z1 lookalike, blacked engine, wheels etc and changed clocks and idiot panel etc, i have sytematically tried to put it back to the A4 model it should be, however its easy to miss parts like the tailpiece. Im not going to replace it now as stated its all painted up and yes i do think it looks sleeker then the correct one.

The way to tell definitively is to show us a photo of the tailpiece looking from the rear.
Z900 is more squared off.

Will get a photo from rear taken and post it, but pretty sure it is the earlier more curved Z1 version.
Nigel/ RPeters sent you both PMs re Tray replies but for some reason instead of going into outbox they dissapear and dont show in sent items so no idea if youve got them?

Pm's do not show as sent until recipient opens them.

That's an earlier oval tail light version.

Cheers Warren, yes thats what i thought and explains why the A4 tray wont fit. As for PMs thought they showed up in outbox until opened, (least all my others have) by recipient, in this case they just dissapear dont show in outbox or sent box? Tried 3 times same result.

The A4/Z1000 tray is about 5mm wider at the back, the original tailpiece is tapered slightly, the later one is more parallel - another reason early looks more elegant.

I'd stick an earlier tailight on there too it's nicer than the square one as well.
