Oil Capacity on KZ1000

#1 PostAuthor: Jim Goose » Thu Jun 16, 2011 7:25 am

Hi Guys.
I Drained the oil and replaced the Oil filter yersterday.
When I filled the engine with oil, it only took around 1.5 Ltrs before it registered full on the display window.
The filler cap has 3700CC (3.7 Ltrs) stamped on it.
Any one else encounter this, or know if I have enough oil in it?
Cheers
Rob

Might sound obvious but I would take the clutch cover off and clean the indicator window :) 1 and a half ltrs aint nowhere near enough

Also it takes time for the oil to seep into the filter. have a look again today to see what it says

Thanks for the tips lads.
Defo something a drift.
I'll drain the oil again tonight, use a few methods and see what happens.

Also worth taking the sump off and remove the oil pump and give it a clean its a easy job and well worth doing you will be surprised how much crap is stuck to the oil pump

Might do that if it,s not too much hassle. Do I need to remove the header pipes? Will I need a new sump gasket?

Drained the oil from the larger of the two bolts, and got the full 3.7 lts out. Happy Days.

If you do the sump you will need to remove the headers and get a new gasket as you dont want to have to do it twice.

when u drain oil again... u do both large and small bolt, and i would always do filter at the same time

I've always found that after changing the oil & filter: topping up with 4 litres of oil leaves it at full after running the engine.

The filter keeps hold of the extra 0.3ltr

hope that helps.
