is the Z1r speedo drive the same as for a 78 Z1000

not 100% certain but it looks the same to me...................

doesn't look any different to my '76 Z900 one either come to that.

According to the Z-power parts book all the parts except the actual gear are the same, although the gear looks the same it is the only piece that is listed under a different number ie. 41059-026 for the A1 and 41060-1010 for the Z1R.

Check the wheel and spindle size, they are the parts which may have changed, the speedo head will probably run to the same ratio.
