apologies for silly question but my manual is away and I am trying to sort ignition problems on my new V-Z ST.
The Kill switch seems to have a very "soft" action, not very positive in any position, what is the best way to test it [specially as I cannot get the bike running].
Should there be any spark in the off position? Should the starter motor even turn ?

Kill switch ?

Can't be precise - but when its OFF - no spark. These KILL switches are a real PITA..... then cause loads of problems shorting out and not letting the full 12v thru'
The power to the coils/points, etc goes thru' this bit and if its not clean & working 100% then it can/will lead to problems - poor running/starting, sooty plugs, misfires, not revving out, etc....

And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
Here is an article that can help

Thanks Pigford, this is prime suspect then, I will swap it over from one of my other STs and see if this eliminates the problem, may get her running for a ride out on this glorious day !

And thanks Taffus, just read that, may be after testing I will find a relay form somewhere and try that but I suspect the wiring on this new ebay acquisition "V"Z is going to need a whole bunch of TLC as crappy Halfords crimps abound!

mm, stuck a spare plug in each HT lead and cranker her over with the kill switch in all 3 positions and each plug sparked..
don't think thats right so I just took the R/H switch gear apart and :
no connection at all!
except this.
Think i will swap over the switch from Olive and see if anything gets better, I must get something running in this lovely weather!
I suspect however a total rewire coming on....
