Folks,
Having now removed the remnants of the old head gaskets from the top surface of the barrels I've found that it is quite pitted. Is that likely to cause me grief when it's all zipped up do you reckon ? And if not is it ok to take a light skim to smooth things up ? I'm just mindful that in skimming it the slot the the cam chain tunnel rubber seal sits in will be less deep.
Any advice greatfully received
Many thanks
Paul

Re: Skimming top surface of barrels ?
Just depends on how bad the pitting is and could any pits link up to form a path out of the compression chambers or oil feeds,if it does need skimming you could fit a one piece gasket and fill the o ring recess with high temp rtv as i have been advised recently and intend to do next time round, make sure head is level in either case.

Re: Skimming top surface of barrels ?
if the pitting is only associated with the aluminium part of the cylinder & not the top sealing surface of the steel liner it will be fine.just smear some 3 bond on one side of the gasket
Re: Skimming top surface of barrels ?
Yeh it's on the aluminium part mate. The tops of the liners are just fine. So you reckon that'll be ok then, that's good to know.
Thanks for the help.
