After much investigation I've discovered that most rectifier/regulators that people claim are for the MKII will not actually fit. This is because on the MKII the unit sits behind the LH side panel inside a metal electrical box.
The standard Kawasaki unit is approx 66mm deep with little room to accommodate anything much bigger (you might get away with 70mm but the Electrex World unit for example is 80mm).
David at CY Bike came up trumps in the end as PMC offer a replacement with the same dimensions as the standard unit - part no. 81-4083
I may have jumped the gun a little hear as the connection plugs / wires are a little different.
Standard Kawasaki MKII item has 5 wires going into the multiplug + 1 separate wire with bullet connector
PMC unit has 4 wires going into the multiplug - 1 wire with a bullet connector + 1 wire with a battery connection type terminal.

Re: Z1000 MK II Regulator/Rectifier
Have got an electrex world combined on my 69 H1 500 triple which have owned for 20years and got fed up with regulator points falling off especially when doing 2stroke track days. Been done for about 15 years and have had excellent charging.

This may be useful for the "Rivet counter Anoraks"
if you purchase a pattern one and need the plug colours to match, these guys supply connectors in different colours.

On my German z1000h I had to make a small ally plate to get the electrex one to fit
Do you have a photo showing how you did it?
Sadly no and i've since sold the bike. Maybe the new owner will see this and post but the plate offset the mounting holes inwards so it would fit behind the sidepanel.
hopefully that makes sense.....
