Z1000A2 rough between 2000 and 3000 - found a fix

#1 PostAuthor: Freebird » Wed Aug 04, 2021 8:39 am

Hi Everyone

I just thought I would share my experience of fault finding a really annoying rough patch between 2 and 3k for the benefit of others who might suffer the same.

The bike idled perfectly and pulled well after 3000 and the hesitation I was experiencing certainly felt like it was carb related and most of the advice I was given was directed in that area. Once I had stripped the carbs, I found it had been fitted with all new jets etc. so it seemed the previous owner had also gone down that path. Everything looked an measured perfectly, so I had the choke plungers refurbished by zed1015 as these were still original. Unfortunately this was not to prove to the the cause, though I'm sure it was beneficial.

Having exhausted carb related fixes, I turned to the ignition. I had checked that the timing was spot on early on in my investigation, but on closer examination I noticed that the advance jumped from the idle setting to full advance at 3000 in the blink of an eye instead of a nice gradual increase in advance.

To cut a long story short, a new pair of advance springs from Z-Power provided the fix I had been searching for. The best £13.05 I have ever spent....The old ones were distorted, shorter, fatter and stiffer so it seems someone had been fiddling at some point in the past.

I hope this helps someone with similar issues.

Cheers

Glen
