kawasaki Z1100R1 - 1984 troubles

Re: kawasaki Z1100R1 - 1984 troubles
i will try again to set the camtiming, but i do not understand why this doesn't work, it worked well on my gpz1100b2 engine. And what i did not mention yet, when the engine is turning at idle, i can hear some ticking out of the camshaft cover.
i've set all of the valves on the wide side, i mean, somewhere between 015 and 018, which is the maximum gap, as mentioned in the service manual. i say between 015 and 018, because i have no feeler that is less than 05 thick.
Once again thanks to you all for trying to help me with my problem, i hope i will find the solution at last. The compression was already low when i bought the bike, that is the reason why i had the cylinders rebored to 73mm and have put new pistons and rings in it.
That was an expensive cost, that wasn't necessary as it looks right now.

i don't know how gpz1100 a2 cams look like, can anyone post a picture of them, so that i can see if mine are the right ones???? thx in advance
Re: kawasaki Z1100R1 - 1984 troubles
the ticking noise could be the valves hitting the piston if the cam timing is out
Re: kawasaki Z1100R1 - 1984 troubles
These are Unitrak / 1100R1 cams. There are no grooves or teeth on the 'identifier' boss.

Re: kawasaki Z1100R1 - 1984 troubles
Hi everybody, after 4 hours of removing carbs, oil cooler, ignition coils , camchain cover, i finally could check the valve timing, and it was a little out of specs.
So i adjusted it, like some of you guys had advised me, and with the help of the pictures and the service manual, i managed to get the damn thing right.
Made a compression check, and WAW, the compression jumped to about120 psi on all COLD cylinders, that's fantastic.
I want to thank all of the guys who helped me with advice, remarks and pictures.
greetings from Belgium
