Z1000 A1 Airbox Drain?

#1 PostAuthor: Speedie » Wed Oct 26, 2022 6:44 pm

Hello all
Could anyone advise if there are supposed to be drain hoses fitted to these two fittings on the airbox, if there are should there be a catch pot involved? Nothing is shown in the parts manual. Bit of a mystery.

Also, I just re-read my first ever post from about a year ago, and there were some comments that I had totally missed asking where abouts in Kent I am from. I am in Bromley, and so apologies to the two or three that commented. :D

Thanks
Paul

No. They are supports that rest on the top of the crankcase I believe.

Thanks Nigel!
Seems odd that they are both open to atmosphere.

I think they are both on the 'dirty' side of the air filter though so a non-issue.

Good point, just checked, but they are on the clean side of the filter. I think I will just blank them off.

Are they not drain holes?

Hi Darren, yes I guess they must be, but it seems odd that they are on the secondary side of the air filter and open to air with no filtration. Each hole is about 6mm dia.
As we know, more modern bikes have these drain outlets but with a tube and a catch pot for any oil blown up through the crankcase vent.

Are they threaded? If so I think there's supposed to be a knurled plastic drain knob thingy on each one. Not easy to find replacements tho.

Thanks Olly, yes they are threaded, in the top photo you can see the screw on caps and threads. Anyone got a pic of the knurled plastic drain knob thingy?

Hi Paul,
Not got a photo of them, but they are no. 17 in the z-power parts book.

As Olly says, probably difficult to find originals.

Thanks Pete and Warren.
I do have these caps, they can be seen in the original post photos. Perhaps they should be blocked off as mine are just open to air and are on the clean side of the filter. The holes go straight through and they are about 6mm or so on each one.
Think I'll just put a couple of rubber bungs in the bottoms of the caps.

I assume a PO must have drilled them and put some drain tubes on them?
Rubber bungs or a blob of nvt it is.
