Hi Guys,
Stripped the forks on my Z1000 J3 ready for hard re-chroming. Pulled out stanchions and at bottom end nothing like shown in the J factory manual. The J3/1000R supplement at back of manual doesn't show either.
There's what appears to be an oil flow control metering device /valve retained in the end of the tube. It rotates freely but is somehow fixed into place below with a threaded or press fit bush to prevent it from coming out (see pics).
I assume the plating process will ruin this so will need to come out. CMSNL exploded views dont show my fork assembly either.
Can any of you sage members shed any light on this?

Forgot to add, notice external bushes and lower internal springs different too. I've owned bike from new, so as came from factory.

From memory, my 1000r forks were very similar if not identical.
The bottom insert (In first photo) should pop out if you heat the end and put a brush handle or similar in and tap. just advise the chromer that he must turn the internal when the process is complete. My understanding is they turn the outside back down to spec after coating anyway. They may very well be aware of this anyway.

don't worry about that part.
The chrome only gets to the outside of the fork stanchions, not on the inside.
The fork stanchions of my Gpz1100B2 were also rechromed and they're the same.
These turned out good after rechroming.

Plating will not ruin them holes are generally plugged, even if not the throwing power is not enough to internally plate, only the the exposed surfaces and radius's

The shuttle valves are correct and should be there. The chroming only goes part way to the end of the tube when hung up and suspended in the tank so you may not have to remove them but i would speak to the chroming monkeys and ask first if the want them removed. Might be best as the grinding process will clog them up somewhat.
2 Springs are correct for rebound and its the early models which only have one, the diagrams only show the early models like my original forks for example.
Bushes look to be standard. I have 'odd' forks now, dont know which model. The lower bushes are new from ZPower and come from a different bike. Dont know which one and they are (Teflon????) coated over the phosphor bronze surface. I can get the part number for you if you need it. I have had about three sets and they order them from CMSNL under the number i used last time from my order history on the computer.

Mark, yours look most like mine, still slightly different though. Also, I don't have spring seats for some reason !!!.
As suggested, I need to speak to the chroming company to get advice. The top of the tubes have an internal thread, I'm going to assume that this will be okay too.
