Lights

#1 PostAuthor: Anthonysz900 » Fri Aug 23, 2024 11:13 am

Hi everyone I'm new here and thanks for accepting me here on your forum.

I am looking for an alternative taillight to suite my 1975 z 900.
I was looking along the lines of the
z 900 RS,
BMW F 800,
But would any of these options fit nicely under the duck shaped tail piece of the 75 z 900,
I was also thinking maybe Bullet lights might look good with the old style original looking indicators I put back on.

Hi and welcome to the club.
You dont say why you want to change the tail light? Brocken, Missing?
Obviously its your bike and can fit whatever lights you like to it, however my own opinion is Kawasaki got it spot on with the original, also changing it may de value your machine too. There may be plenty of members who may have the correct replacement, try advert in the wanted column.
On the other hand the Z900RS looks similar so will probably fit, but bear in mind the fitting bracket may need modification and/or your mudguard too. These are expensive if you later decide to go back to standard and youve modified stuff.
Another option is the earlier Z1 type tail light which arguably looks better then the later one. But comes down to personel taste versus originality.
Just my thoughts

Sorry Gray 17,
I should of mentioned My z 900, is not original
as it's already got other bike parts on it. I bought it from a dealer in the UK 17 years back.
Hi Kev thanks our er5 tail light looks neat nice option.
Thank you

Hi Anthonysz900, in that case suppose it doesnt really matter too much as long as it fits and is functional and your happy with how it looks.
Like you i bought my Z900 A4 which was a US import and had been heavily modified by prev owner to his taste,
I decided a restoration was in order and set about bringing it up to date and back to standard. Not cheap of course but old machinery commands a premium as do the parts.
Post a piccy when you decide upon your new tail light.

Hi Anthony,
You could try central bikes in Tullamore. Paddy has a good selection of Jap spares and should have something to suit if you re open minded. I saw something he fitted on either a 900 or 650 a while ago, it was a better fit than the correct lamp. Pm if you want a no.

They're nice tricked up.
But The older they get
the more original they are you cand trump that.
I'll get a few more things tidied up on my z then hopefully put a pic up,

Have you thought about a Zephyr 750 or 1100 rear light - they had a ducktail too , so will be the right shape for your ducktail. And it keep it in the Kawasaki family
