Re: 1976 Z900 A4 Plug Thread

A while ago now i stripped my Z900 A4 engine for full rebuild and vapour blasting, whilst everything was i bits decided the cylinder head needed some work, new valve guides, head skim and to assess minute cracks ( which forum advised was normal) etc.
I also noticed that 1 of the plug threads had been replaced with a helicoil, to make matters worst part of the coil was stood proud, in order to get the plug to seal the prev owner had put 2 washers on the plug to try to stop leakage. I went down the routw of having the helicoil removed and a timecert put in by the engineering, they did a superb job and sorted the cracks out too.
Now in my case the head was already removed, whilst im sure its possible to do with head in place, personally i wouldnt risk it for fear of swarf getting in.
Just my thoughts but a head gasket set is a lot cheaper then a full rebore if swarf did get in! Its also an oppertunity to check valves, guides etc condition whilst apart.
