Yes thanks Rob i did remember, counted from next after mark, cant believe how much original chain had stretched. Realky surprised me! Measured both, new one nearly 1/2 " shorter then old one yet appeared to be no play in links themselves, so guessing extra is every part has stretched a small ammount. Have left cam chain tensioner as you left it as it still contracts enough on the new position as you left it, plus you'd peined grub screw in place. Its also now apparent why i got it wrong originally as it was so much out, when aligned with cover, whereas now its spot on when at tdc. How much does a new chain stretch initially, ie should i re check tensioner after 500 miles or so?

Well if thats true theres no appreciable play in any of the plates to pins, youd expect with 1/2" difference you'd be able to feel it when you pull and push it on the links?
Anyway regardless new ones in place now so problem sorted, least that side of it, time will tell on the remainder.
Clutch kit just arrived by courier so thats another job i can now get finished, was in 2 minds as still within tollerence but only just, decided as it was already in bits and would need oil draining and new gasket yet again it wasnt worth risking it.

if you lay the chain down on a flat surface and push all the links together, then hold one end still and pull the other end you will see how much its worn.

Afternoon Guys not been at it for a while, too cold in garage even with fan heater on, perhaps im getting a wuss but def feel it more these days! Brrrh!
Anyway all parts arrived, new ball bearing, new pushrod and new clutch all fitted, also fitted new clutch cable, the old one was wrong one and far too long, had been taken across engine front with a support bracket then up right hand leg instead of left hand one, then up through fork bracket to clutch lever, did work but decided new cable was required, anyway fitted new cable, removed support bracket as not now needed, ran up left hand leg as per manual, works fine until you put handle bars fully to right then pulls on clutch, doesnt seem to be quite long enough although listed for Z900 A4, perhaps I've ran it wrong, will re check routing.
But progress def made.

There are different lengths of clutch cable depending on the type and rise of your handle bars.

Do you have cable runnung up between headlamp ears?.

What zed9 said and which bars do you have? Euro or US high?

Hi Guys thanks for replies, never even thought of that duh! Yes cable comes up through ears from left hand frame leg, but also tried on outside of ears up through tank edge too. I also tried with cable from clutch housing inside frame and outside frame no difference.
However when i look at bars think they may be higher then normal, thats obviously my problem, so new ones too short, others too long. Should have checked bars before purchase but until you mentioned it never gave it a 2nd thought.
Seems thats the way my years gone so far, 1 step forward, 2 steps back!
