Static timing a Dyna S ignition
Just looking for a bit of advice on this dyna s ignition, according to the instructions when timing the engine statically it says connect a 12v test light from the junction of the black coil wires to ground. My black coil wires do not join at any junction they go separately to the ignition modules on the dyna s plate ?? Am i being stupid here, do i just connect test light to both coil wires & other end to earth ?? & with regard to advancing the rotor do i just turn it with my fingers whilst rotating the engine

Thanks Z1bman, I wanted to check out what Chrisu has to say about that facet of the static adjustment.
To my mind, by adjusting with the rotor falsely moved to the advanced position, I can't understand why it wouldn't effect the timing at idle.
I always check dynamically with a timing light and have always disliked that static method.
RegardZ.

Here's a link to the post

thought i'd set it up right, should have put the instructions that came with the kit in the bin first, read christu's post a few times & did it again his way & now its running much better

Re: Static timing a Dyna S ignition
I am trying to time the Dyna S on my Z1, I found this post but the link does not work. Can someone post the instructions again?

Hi .
Here's the link below I believ. As its in the HOW to section you have to be a PUM to view.

Re: Static timing a Dyna S ignition
I've always found it simplest and most accurate to set them up using a circuit tester and on the F mark and static engine.
Elimanates the any variables with spring strength etc.
Then check it with a strobe afterwards.

yes static timing gets it in the ball park so at least it runs, then once its running then strobing gets it spot on.

This is how I do it Dyna
all plugs out turn engine to 1.4 F mark … put a plug in lead from1 / 4 coil were you can see it earthed on the engine , turn the ignition on twist the dyna trigger as far as it will go clockwise, then while holding it There move the carrier plate until you see / hear a spark on the plug you positioned carefully. tighten everything up and run it , you can check with a strobe later ,
