Points cam

#1 PostAuthor: ted1r » Tue Jul 28, 2009 6:49 pm

Does the team think :?: that the heel of the points arm should be just touching the rotor or should there be a gap, I am at a loose end with my timing.

I don't do points Ted but, thats not the important end... open, lift, close. That's the important bit or bits.. If memory servs me right a dwell meter is the way to go

Ted, the fibre heel should bear on the cam with some pressure from the curved steel blue spring strap. The points are controlled by the heel bearing on the this cam. If there is no pressure on the cam you will not be able to set the points to the required 0.015" odd! .... No gap ever between heel & cam!

Note: I have found some replacement points of the Z1/ Z900's are hard to set ... something to do with their dimensions ... maybe off a Z650!

Echo Garns comments, I've had trouble in the past & found that the points were either Z650 or pattern so there must be a subtle difference.
