4-4 exhaust system splitting

On the stock 4-4 system where the downpipe meets the silencer there is a sheet steel clamp with the ends spot welded. Has anyone ever removed this clamp and if so does the downpipe separate from the silencer easily ?

They are welded together. The clamp thingy is just a cover to cover up the weld. Only way to seperate them is with a hacksaw.
I think most new systems now dont come with the clamp/cover.
