The Z1 parts book gives 2 numbers for the battery strap. 92072-051 superseding to 92072-045. I know about the early 'bent' shaped metal tab but don't think this it.
Any of you early Z1 experts know what was different?

Is this what you mean?
Top early (bent loop) one, and below the later item

John, firstly, I don't believe there were more than two types of Battery/ Chain-Oil-Bottle straps.
I recall seeing
mostly the "bent tab" type on the Chain-Oil-Bottle and the other on the Battery. I think the parts book may be in error for the following reasons;
The parts illustration show the Chain-Oil-Bottle having the "bent-tab".
The parts illustration show Battery strap having the "non-bent" type.
For the Battery strap, the parts book has 92072-051, with a notation (when exhausted use 92072-045) which would indicate that the 051 is the earlier type.
For the Chain-Oil-bottle only 92072-045 is mentioned. which would indicate that the 045 is the earlier "bent-tab" type
RegardZ.
BTW, I'm looking for a few "bent-tab" type, any condition at top price. Anyone?

Thanks Bedlow and Garn
I know about the bent or straight difference (no jokes please!). I've seen both types come under the same part 92072-045. What got me curious is a recent listing on ebay for the 92072-051 type which I've not seen before
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... MEWNX%3AIT
It looks like it might be slightly shorter than the -045. Was wondering if anyone knows about this part ever being fitted to early Z1's?

Hi John
I have a first edition Z1 parts book with a printing date of 20/9/72.
The battery band is part number 92072-051 and is depicted as having a plain oblong hook at each end, the chain oil tank goes under the description band, oil tank with part number 92072-045 this has an oblong hook at the lower end with the 'eared' hook uppermost.
Any use ?
Cheers
Neil

Hi John
Intrigued, as I know there is conflicting information even within Kawasaki's official publications. This proves to be the case between the first edition parts book I have (dated 20/9/72) and what I believe to be a first issue owner's manual (dated August 1972) The parts book has already been described, the illustrations in the owner's manual show the 'eared' type of band to both battery & oil tank strap.
Thanks
Neil

Yes dont think we are going to get 100% correct on this one folks, i guess it would have been dealer and not Kawasaki who fitted these straps on PDI so maybe thats why you see some on both or the oil tank or the battery. The very short one that sometimes comes up is for to hold the tool kit on some small kawa bike models and they are some times mis sold as Z1 battery strap when in fact they would never stretch that far.
Have been looking at that compleatly unrstored z1 "the sweetest Z1" its showing 2 looped straps

Graham,
In the picture you posted, is the top strap 92072-045 or -051? (or don't you know?)
