Z1-B Tyres Advice Please

#1 PostAuthor: Andy T » Mon Mar 01, 2010 8:29 pm

Hi,

Just about to change my front and back tyres on my 1975 Z-1B. It currently has a TT 100 on the rear and some cheap Jap rubbish on the front. I would like to put the original type of tyres back on but not sure what they where fitted with. Some web sites tell me Dunlop K87 rear Dunlop F11 or F6B on the front? If I can't get the Dunlop’s what do you Z1 owners fit as a good classic replacement?

Ps links to the supplier would also be good.

Thanks,

Andy

F6 is NLA. Z power do Japlop K87 and F11.

As Maine said to me on questioning him not going for the Japlops "I do intend to go around the odd corner"

You will be pleased with Bridgestone BT45`s in original sizes 4.00 and 3.25. They come in tubeless from M and P for not so many pounds.

Metzeler Lasertec's or as tailift says BT45's if you want to ride it, these are a big improvement over the Dunlops

Be carefull with the Z power japlocks as they are not road legal in this country ( as per Central Wheels and three trade tyre suppliers ) apparantly they don,t have approval for use in this country.
I only found this out when recently restoring a Z1 to original, I wonder why only Z Power can get these tyres and not normal tyre suppliers.
Worth checking first, it may be wrong.

BT45's look a bit modern IMHO.

I went for Metzeler Perfect ME 77 rear and ME11 front as they look a bit
more period, come in imperial sizes and, lets face it, almost any modern tyre
is a brazillion times better than a 1970's Japlop, Yokohama or Bridgestone :)

Best price I found was www.mrtyre.co.uk (mailorder - I fit my own rubber).

Great tyre the ME11. Sadly I can only now see an S rated tyre as available

So many tyres are now unavailable. I used to use the Conti TK22 / 44 BMW boxer tyres. Unavailable now :(
