Any one know how to disassemble the rear shocks on a 1977 Z1000?
Do I need to hammer out the pin in the picture?
I have compressed the spring and found a 24mm narrow nut, which will only turn two thirds of a revolution.
Please and Thanks

Jim yes You will need to remove that small roll pin before undoing the top

Further from Paul's removal of roll-pin, ..... as already stated, you will need to compress the spring and get access to a large half nut (23 mm I think!), then using a slim spanner to unlock the top of the shock from the spindle.

Make sure you remove all the small filings from the threaded area, as the hole for these roll-pins was drilled on assembly. They need to be put in at the same position they are taken apart, otherwise re-drilling will be required.

Do not forget to refit a new pin, my shocks had already been rechromed/rebuilt when I got them and I didn't notice that the pins hadn't been put back, until a couple of years later whilst on my way home from the Yorkshire rally when one of them unscrewed itself and exploded  I was very lucky as I'd just come off the motorway and was down to about thirty mph, a few minutes before it had been three times that.
