OK - Now I have a Haynes  ... and a Clymer .... and the official KAWASAKI MANUAL...... but they only seem to give FUEL HEIGHT, not FLOAT HEIGHT

I assume it'll be around 20mm or so, but anyone got the proper figure... Its for the 26mm carbs with the "fuel pilot screw" underneath the carb (by the manfold rubbers) - it does NOT have the air screws on the upper section of the carb.

If this figure is not available from a MANUAL - has anyone set their carbs FUEL HEIGHT and measured the float height afterwards :??

If not - WHY NOT, as it'd be a very useful figure to possess

piggy, kawasaki only gave a service fuel level in their mauals, even in the small dealer service spec book i have it doesen't list a float height, i always do it by level, as after all this time the floats can be bent all over the place,

Pigford, the usual upside-down check of float levels is in "Clymer" at the end of the Chapter on Carbs. They range from 26 mm (79 LTD) for VM26SS, down to 22 mm for the 76 Z900-A4 (both measurements + or - 1mm).
The actusl level as measured (carb upright) measured with clear tube should be approx 1/8" (3.2mm) down from the flange (lowest edge) of the upper carb body.

That fuel screw (as opposed to air screw) at the bottom of float bowl, with the o-ring seal, must bottom out, as it simply says "Turn fully clockwise when viewed from below"?.
Anyone know what it should be set at before tuning?

Cheers Garn

My LTD is ruuning K&N round pod filters & the Kerker 4:1 and it going quite good with carbs set at:

115 main
17.5 pilot
Float at 21mm
Needles on #4 notch setting (top notch is #1)
1.0 turn out fuel mix screw (idled better at 1.5 turns out but was too rich at just off throttle stop)

The fuel mix screw was wound fully in to start with.

Its still a tad rich on 0 - 1/4 throttle and a bit lean at WOT, so gonna go for 117.5 mains and drop needle to #2 notch and do floats to 25mm

because fuel height also gives a good indication of valve and valve seat condition.

Adaptors are easy enough to make - you are just being lazy :!:
