Took the bike across to Abageveny yesterday. Great run until it was pionted out that he rear tyre was cracked. Its about 18 months old. no great milage. Bikes kept on its center stand. Pressures are aways checked prior to a run. Not happy

Anyone else had a problem. Looks like a manufacturing fault to me.

I've got a set on my GT750 and they cracked after 12 months, they haven't got any worse and I still use the bike with them on.
The MOT test didn't pick them up either.

If tyres are left standing on cold concrete when the bike is stood up - it does them no good.
If you are standing the bike up for prolonged lengths of time, get the wheels off the ground altogether or at least stick some wood or similar under the tyres. It will help prevent the problem you are seeing.
I would still contact Avon and ask for their views on why one of their tyres has cracked so quickly though. Look on one side of the tyre and there will be a 4 digit manufacture code, usually stamped in an oval plate. The first two digits are the week number, the last two are the year, so 4009 would be week 40 2009. If it's recent - you should have cause for complaint I suspect.

In my case I put it down to sunlight, the tyres were good in April but by August the cracks had appeared ( mainly where the tyre poked out from under the bike cover)

I was just about to order a pair of those tyres. Think I'll wait now and see how their 'customer service' responds to your complaint.
