yep motorbatt are excellentzed1015 wrote:If you still have probs after checking all the wiring etc get a later four brush starter from a J/gpz.
They are higher torque and should easily do the job.
Also if replacing the battery those Motobatt gell ones are very good and deliver more cranking amps than a normal lead acid one.

too much compression ??

compression
I would try advancing the ignition timing so it fired at 10 degrees btc instead of 20 degrees standard , this would then make fully advanced timing 30 degrees btc instead of 40 degrees btc, but this is fine in a high comp motor. Alternatively if you fit a Z1 advance/ retard assembly they fire at 5 degrees btc and fully advance to 40 degrees btc. Buzzard

Not being picky, but isn't that retarding the ignition Buzzard?
Do you ever see Colin Cowley or is that a name from the dim and distant past for you as for me?
bob fell wrote:I fitted electronic ignition a few ears ago, it may not be ste right as my rev counter doesn`t work very well, I think you need to set the timing to a certain rev figure , is that right ??
....only if an optical unit, or an old magnetically fired thing......
Set a Dyna S statically with the advance unit held at "full advance" - by turning ignition on and watching an earthed sparkplug, errrr, spark
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Dyna S - set up from memory 3500 revs, I believe ?

Needaz1100r, your right, slight slip up there but you know what I ment, starting the engine at 10 degrees btc is much easier than 20 degrees btc, that's the setting I used on my 1425cc aspirated bike without any grief. And answering you other question I haven't seen Colin Cowley for 20 years, but that guy could do one hell of a wheelie!!!!! How do you know him? Buzzard

Buzzard, it was obvious what you meant, and a reasonable thing to do, I have experience of it starting monster compression Harley engines - the sort you can't kickstart without your mate sat on your shoulders.
I used to work with Colin in his (our) Honeywell days, the last time I saw him was at that pub in Hook about 12 years ago.
