Losing oil

#1 PostAuthor: zman » Fri Oct 26, 2012 9:20 am

the bike has been burning and or losing oil.
There is a little bit of smoke out the exhaust so its burning some. Also a bit of a weep around the head gasket. Not sure why as was a new gasket fitted when i put new valves in last winter.
would a compression check tell me if the oil is also leaking into the cylinders.
Is there a way to check if its a valve seal.

lve left it till now as the bike still runs great.

Re check the torque setting on the head...might be slightly loose due to settling down after the rebuild.

The burning oil would need a stripdown to fine where the oils getting in...

Did you use quality valve oil seals on the rebuild?

Sounds like valve stem oil seals or valve guides to me.

On full choke due to the excessive vacuum, the engine will draw oil in through the valve stem oil seals.

There are posts on this forum about over filling with oil. The Z's like the oil to be sitting near the bottom of the two marks. If it's up to the top it just gets blown off until it's burned down to the lower mark and that's where it stays.
