Can anybody tell me if the disc size is the same,or at least should be, on the J and the R2.I have just tried putting a set of forks off a J onto the R2 and all was ok until i put the front wheel on.The discs are actually touching the body of the caliper holder and are around 3 mm to big.The discs on my GPZ1100 are the same diameter as those on the R2.If they are meant to be the same size the only thing i can think of is that the forks of the J are off an earlier model that may have had smaller discs, or the discs on the R2 are not standard size.

I think Jack had the same problem, J1 and I think J2 discs are different to J3 and R2 discs

Dale, have you tried the original wheel and discs/calipers combination with the J forks ?

Hi John, its the original discs, calipers & wheel off the R2 that i put onto the J forks/stantions.Dont have the ones from the J so have no way of telling if they are different. Did also think about using the stantions from the R2 and putting them on the J forks, would,in theory only then need to but a set of fork seals and oil, providing of course Mr Kawasaki hasnt made them a different diameter as well! Open to suggestions

There's a different part number for the J1/2 and J3 stanchions and brakes. The early ones have an A after the number, the J3 and R2 part numbers are the same with no A.

had a brain wave last night and this morning i have put the spare wheel (off a J) i got with the bike on the R2.Although the discs are in pretty poor condition it all fits correctly. These discs have 2C 33 on them, the ones on the R2 have 3A 38 on them. The bolting pattern for putting them on the wheels looks the same, should they in theory then be ok to put on the R2 wheel and be safe to use if i get them cleaned up or can source some others?

The front disc sizes are 270mm for the J1,J2 and GPz1100B1.
It is 280mm for the J3,GPz1100B2 and Lawson 1000R2/1100R1.
The fork bottoms are slightly different on the later models to provide clearance for the larger discs. The bottom mounting lug is offset slightly to increase the radius for the caliper.
I shall be choosing this as one of my specialist subjects on Mastermind.
