Oil light comes up on hard excelleration

#1 PostAuthor: johny brando » Mon Sep 30, 2013 12:05 am

1976 Z900 ( but the Oil pump could be earlier though for all I know ? )
Hi.I'm knew to this Forum (but had 900 Kawas since 1975 ) my oil light comes up under hard excelleration & goes out when I roll off the power. I hear the sump gate fix is not worthy of trying & deemed a waste of time now ? I'm going to put an Oil gauge off the main Oil gallery to see what I've got & I expect it to be a little low... as I'm running an oil cooler & if it close to 3psi at 4000 rpms with hot oil well all's OK then & I'll then know it's the pressure switch ... but if it's less than 3psi...... I'll disconnect the cooler & try again & if it's still low then , well I guess I'll have to check all the Oil pump internals & clearances. I'd just like to know if any one else has had this issue & what you found to be the problem ....as many heads make light work aye ... I appreciate any valid imput please ?
Thanks Guys,

The oil pan gate is not a waste of time and a good and easy mod to have if you ride with a heavy wrist or have a tuned motor.
I fit one to all of mine.

Glad to be of assistance, and like Rob (Zed1015) says, a worthwhile mod on any sump.
Cheers, Will

Which year I am guessing, it's a long time since I have seen the sump on the unitrac so don't know if there is an internal change
