Reproduction gauge faces on eBay

#1 PostAuthor: toycollector10 » Wed Jul 16, 2014 10:51 am

There's a seller in the USA called retro-motorcycles who has some great looking and reasonably priced faces. Has anyone bought these? What do the experts think? To fit a 1973 model USA spec frame number 16632.

Also, if these are correct and accurate, can anyone supply a link or video of how to remove the chrome ring to do the job and more importantly, how to put the ring back without it looking as if someone (me) has made a bloody ugly mess of it?

I'm in New Zealand if that matters.

Thanks, TC

These have been available for a long time and lots of people selling them too. I was thinking of getting some but not sure if they are like the originals - perhaps someone can say.
The real ones are semi-transparent green. From having a good look at them, I would say they are printed with semi-transparent white (possible radioactive luminous?), then screen printed with the opaque black, masking off the numbers in the first coat. When the lamp shines through the illuminated white details glow green.
I am going to use the transfers from Diablo cycles/Repro decals as they use you original green plate and are supposed to be semi transparent so you should get something very like the original. That's my opinion anyway.

:D

here's their guide to how to do it.

I have one of those on my speedo. I swapped from a 160 mph face to a 140 mph face (Z650) using one. They are pretty good quality but on mine at least, do not line up with the rotating counters very well.
Why do I persist in debating with idiots ? I really should know better :)
