Brake light indicator 900 A4

Does the indicator,light up when the bulb fails or when the brake lever is pulled or pressed.?

it lights up when you press the brake & it flashes when the bulb has gone or the outage relay goes duff

I have checked the bulb and that is OK the brake light works from front and rear levers.
To be honest i am not used to red lights coming on unless there is low oil so I am leaving as it is.

A red light coming on the clocks at night will be like a poke in the eye .
