Rust in tank

#1 PostAuthor: sockpuppet » Sun May 17, 2015 5:08 pm

Last week i cleaned out the rust in my z1100r tank using the

coke/limescale cleaner method , it came out pretty good .

Straight afterwards i flushed it out and put in some parrafin and engine oil

mixed together and swilled it all around the tank assuming this oily mixture

would deter any more rust forming.

As you all will have guessed by my post it didn`t work !

If i clean it out again do i have to fill it with to the top with fuel to stop this

happening again ? .

Or is there a company who can clean it out properly and line it for me ?

Any advice gratefully received !

Thanks Mick

I used this method recently on a triumph tank and I pressure washed it afterwards, blew it dry with compressed air and emptied a can of WD40 into it, swilled it around and for more than a month it has been fine.

If you google 'real classic petrol tank cleaning and rust removal' you will see an excellent method by Les Howard. I'm about to give it a go.
