Earth Leads

#1 PostAuthor: gray » Wed Apr 27, 2016 4:32 pm

Just finishing the rebuild and fitting the loom on z900A4
But having difficulty deciding where to put the 2 earth leads
1 is longer than the other
1 fat end must bolt onto the engine by the kickstart
1 fat end must be a battery negative
1 fat end must bolt onto the frame near the rubber tank strap
But where does the 4th fat end go?

Ive got the 2 thin wire male bullets sussed- 1 is attached to the battery box mounting bolt via a ring connector and 1 goes to the earth lead with a female bullet coming out the loom

My photos taken prior to the strip down don't show it well , and Dave's restoration book isn't clear on it
With thanks

There's only 1 earth strap on a a4. And it has a extra bullet earth lead fixed at the battery terminal .

so is the other end bolted to the engine at the kickstart or to the frame at the tank strap?
( I've just looked at the parts book and I see you're right - I've had 2 fitted (somehow) for the last million years)

Bolted to engine behind kick start . It will not do any harm to have extra earths to frame .

Ta Fer, I'll find somewhere to fit the other one, so long as I've got 1 right that's the main thing

Don't forget the regulator & rectifier (or combined unit) need to be earthed.
A lead from the battery/ engine earth strap usually picks these up!
I think that is the earth lead you were looking for!
