Widest rear tyre/rim on standard swingarm z1000a2

#1 PostAuthor: mike_p » Wed Oct 05, 2016 11:04 am

I'm getting my original '78 z1000 wheels rebuilt with new spokes and whilst at it I'm thinking of fitting slightly wider alloy rims to give me a better choice of modern tyre sizes/widths. Has anyone else done this to a z1000a and if so do you know the limits for tyre/rim combinations with the standard swingarm setup ? Any advice appreciated ta

What for? Modern tyres on stock rims are fine, should easy be able to grind away stand, footrests, and alternator casing with them! :)

Thanks for reply but the question wasn't opinions on standard setup.....I know the standard setup is fine, I don't want a standard size rim...hence the question.
Someone on here must have changed the rims surely ?

Biggest you can go to is 150 without modifications to swing arm . Be careful what 150 tyre you use as some are more than 150mm wide . We had to put a dent into the inside of Kath's A2 as the Avon 150 was about 159 wide .

Be wary of going to 150.

Although a 150 tyre will fit in the gap on my Metmachex arm, in practice the wheel will not rotate once the sprocket carrier, disc etc are fitted. The tyre hits the swingarm and it's nigh on impossible to line up the sprockets.

I am going to a Zephyr swing arm to get the clearance I need.
Why do I persist in debating with idiots ? I really should know better :)
