Thanks everyone - this is turning into quite an educational thread :D :D :D

I will get some pictures up in due course and people can make up their own minds.

The bike allegedly came via Rick Brett several years ago and was sold as an A1 - so if true that would be good provenance.

Garry.L wrote:Some of the problem is that there are a lot of Ltd's about being passed off as Z1/A4's as it doesn't take a lot to make the former look like the latter.

However making a Ltd look like an A1 would be a bit more involved. So would it have been worth the effort doing in the first place?. Always worth checking though.

Definitely like an a4, I have yet to see a bare LTD frame next to a bare A4 frame, but I bet not much difference.

The lower value of the A1/2 v the extra effort, agreed, wouldn't have been worth it.

I intend to make Pigford's old LTD look like an A2 but it will have the LTD frame and it's for me, I shall never be passing it off as anything other than what it is.
Cheers,

Mark.

Whilst we are talking rarity could someone just stick on here how many of each model were actually made -
Z1, A +B
Z900 A4, A5
Z1000 A1,A2,A3

plus the related LTD models if anyone has that data.

I am guessing LTD nos. would be very low.

I would just be interested to compare them all.

Cheers

I have bought from Rick and would have to agree with you.

What I was getting at was there are probs more bikes claiming to have been sold or fettled by Rick than he has actually handled - cos he is so well known as a guru.

My bike has the original us title doc from 77 but the frame number is 500370 which sort of holds up with the Nebraska factory idea

Frame is identical between the B1 Ltd, 900A4 and z1000a1/2 from what I can see as I own all three.

Apart from the rear master cylinder mounting point and the different exhaust hangers (being solid) on both the Z1000A1 and A2.

This is my b2 ltd with work done to make it look less like a ltd, the footrest and exhaust hangers are like the A4 900, the picture that Gus put up is an A1 1000, footrest hangers denote this, same with A2, his has a ltd seat though, odd? mine has the ltd rear mudguard and wheel as made, the grab rail has been changed to a lower one, seat is lower aftermarket, front mudguard is 900/1000, i will be putting a ltd one on soon, headlight bracket is standard ltd, motor is the same as A1/A2 with just the sprocket cover with the angular shape of which i have changed, tank is the ltd smaller one, side and tail panels same as A4 900, the paint i did not commission but it has grown on me. hope this is helpful.
