Is there a published parts book for the Z1000J? If so where can I get one?

I have a J2 with what appears to be a number of parts missing but do not know for sure. For instance, is there a bracket/rubber between the rear of the tank and the frame?

Hi Bill, there is a rubber between the frame and the tank at the rear, my one came from Z-Power, you're welcome to come and look at my J any weekend you want.
I usually look at CMSNL when I want to see the micro fiche, but I think Rob might have a parts book.

Thanks for that, he also does a Z1100R manual, that's another £70 spent on the bike (the postage from New Zealand for a 500 page manual isn't cheap)

What's this "finishing a bike" concept you speak of?

My Z1100R manual arrived from New Zealand today, and it's very nice, loads more info and pictures than the Clymer manual it has sensible wiring diagrams that show the individual circuuts rather than lumping them all together in one incomprehensible diagram.

I tried to order one but the seller is away until May so I will have to wait.

In the meantime, I spent the day in the garage today and, after finishing off the A4 after a rebore, carefully looked over the 1000J for the first time since I bought it. It is X reg (1982) and from the frame number appears to be a J2 (pictured below). There are a number of non original parts on the bike and I am unsure what to look out for. So can anyone tell me where to get hold of/or can they post a picture of:

- original handlebar grips;
- original rear shocks;
- the chain guard - Mine might be original but has a cutaway just behind the shock - which looks original but does not align with the shock
- tell me why the loom seems to have so much to spare from where it passes from the exit point underneath the tank before rising into the headlight shell;
- tell me what lettering should be on the switchblocks. There is none on mine;
- what the colour should be - is it flat black or a very fine metallic black? I have examples of both on two different panels.

As you can probably tell, I know zilch about this model so any info is gratefully received.

Bill, my Lawson still has the original loom fitted and that also has a large loop, near the head stock. I think the original shocks, were the same ones I gave you years ago, which came off the Lawson. I will send you the part numbers of the handlebar rubbers, once I get into the garage. I may even still have the original switch gear, which may have the lettering still on it.

I've got switch gear you can have as well, and yes the wiring is too long for the bike.
Does yours run?
