Electrics

Took the headlight/clocks off the front of my Z1000 recently - cleaning and repairs. Labelled all the wires. The bike has no indicators and there is no wiring for them from the idiot lights.

Started to put everything back together and can not get any life out of anything - starter, horn, lights, etc - would have thought something would show some life?

Battery is charged and putting out 12v and fuses are all good.
There is 12v incoming to the ignition switch and outgoing when turned on.

Have been studying the wiring diagram and all looks to be in place, but patience with auto-electrics is not my strong point

Any tips on where I look now? reg/rec faulty?

Thanks in advance.

Do you still have the original glass type fuses? I had exactly the same on my Z900 and we could not work out why nothing worked. Turned out that the wire inside the main fuse had come away at one end due to vibration. It was still touching the case so was showing continuity but could not carry a load. We only spotted it because the fuse box got moved and i saw it arc. Long shot but could be a very simple fix. Fuse box now replaced with modern version and blade fuses.

Thanks, had put a new fuse in, just in case.

Seems odd I have power at the ignition in and out (when turned on) - yet nothing anywhere else?

double check you have connected the correct female block connectors to the correct males & check the wiring colors at either end

Thanks for the tips lads - but got the bastard - a dodgy solder joint on the back of the ignition switch - sometimes it was good, sometimes not - resoldered and back in action :D
