Electrics problem

Got the z1r out from its winter slumber, all was well when I put it away, now won't fire on 1 +4, problem I have found, the power circuit on the red yellow wire is okay at the coils, when I test between power and green wire from points okay, then same again with black wire okay , that's with wires not connected to the coils, connect up , green side, 2 + 3, okay, black side no voltage at all, transfer the two wires, green stays fine, problem transfers with the black, I am at a loss , heeeeeeeelp.

Probably a condensor needs replacing, usually a little round silver thing near the points.

have you swapped the coils?

If the points are open you will get no voltage across the coil because both sides are 12v. Only when the points close does the points side of the coil become 0v and there is 12v across the coil, the coil discharges and a spark is caused.

Turn your engine over slowly and you should see the condition you describe swap from one coil to the other.

If 1 and 4 won't fire it will be the coil, or the points, or the capacitor, or the feed to that coil.

Maybe consider replacing the Points with a Dyna-S Electronic Ignition - better Starting and running too, plus it wouldn't need as much maintenance.

The fault is somewhere on the black wire side, with the points closed it reads power between the black and yellow / red wire, when NOT connected to the coil, connect up, no power, this happens when I try the black wire on the other coil, the green side works okay of both coils, the only weak spot, could this be the condenser?

Well, bloody thing, swapped over the condenser wires at the point, expecting the fault to transfer, bloody thing started fine, a bit lumpy but run, swapped the wires back, and still all fine, feel like kicking it, but would only break my toe! Going to have a quick run out and see what happens .

Points and condensors are cheap, change them anyway

Well took it out for a blast, never missed a beat, ran like a dream, temperamental bitch I will give it a good thrashing tomorrow, will take the aa card just in case

Loose or dirty condensor connection?
They're weird things, I don't know what they do, but I know you need them

In short a condenser stops a reverse flow spike current, which can stuff your battery and charging system now days they use diodes.
