How to stop flash rust occuring

#1 PostAuthor: swampy » Mon May 22, 2017 2:24 pm

Hi chaps
Quick question for you i have just ordered some deox-c and would like your suggestions to stop flash rust occuring.
I thought maybe a bit of 2 stroke mix swilled around but there may be simpler cheaper methods out there.
Over to you guys.

I've been trying this stuff in my A7 tank, it's been in there 24 hours and it's starting to look really good nearly all gone, I'm kind of thinking it took 46 years to get this bad, how concerned do I need to get about it suddenly rusting again

Boiling water might work. Pour in,-pour out,-So hot water evaporates.?

Or WD40 if you're the kind of person who buys it by the gallon. Which is the best way... :D

ACF-50 doesn't evaporate but by golly it'll prevent rust. Used in the aviation industry. Expensive stuff though :(

Wouldn't it be better to just seal it as quick as possible with that POR15 liner stuff?

Or Petseal - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Petseal-Ultra- ... B006VB6E02

Rinse with some old petrol and coat with Wd40 or 3 in 1 oil.

WD40.... chuck a load in , swill around so it covers every bit. (You can even re-use all the surplace on some other little job  )

As soon as you have rinsed it out and got as much water out use an old cotton tee shirt cut into strips to mop up an more water pull these out the put about a litre of WD or similar in it and swill about, empty out, job done.

I have used Phosphoric acid both inside tanks and on other corroded steel. This http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-LITRE-PHOSP ... Sw9N1VsUEz is 85% which you need to dilute somewhat but it does give fantastic results and at £20 / 5lts delivered it's pretty good value.

I left it in my A7 tank for about a week, sloshing regularly, with no ill effects, then rinsed with WD40. The inside of the tank looks like new now :D

I have heard of using phosphoric acid but was worried about damaging paint. ive bought some 2 stroke oil and I will slosh a gallon of 2stroke mix about and see how that goes.
