Chrome Etc
Could anyone recommend someone that could blast, remove a couple of shallow dents and then re-chrome a UK rear mudguard ?
Cheers

Re: Chrome Etc
I don't know where you are, but ive used Steve Smethurst in Manchester several times for dent work removal. He's not cheep but does a quality job. Paul.
Re: Chrome Etc
I'm just about to get back a batch of chroming back from Ashford Chroming. I took pics, sent them off got a quote that seemed reasonable and competitive and they have been pretty good at keeping me up to date with progress.
I think it's a bit like trip advisor with peoples experiences with chromers!
I will show the results on my project http://z1ownersclub.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=41042 when it arrives.
I also have a couple of mudguards that are pretty good but could do with freshening up, I just wanted to see how good the other stuff was first. It's dear going chroming!

Re: Chrome Etc
I used Leigh Polishing in Swinton, very good, he also does Steve Smethurst's polishing and chroming.

Re: Chrome Etc
People in the Midlands area tend to recommend Castle Chrome,
haven't used them myself so can't vouch for them personally, but they'd be closer to you. - http://www.castlechrome.co.uk/

Re: Chrome Etc
Steve is trying to do a sensitive resto of his original UK Z1A
I am sure there must be better prices out there particularly if for chroming in bulk. I wonder if the club could negotiate a deal with a reputable company?

Re: Chrome Etc
Steve Smethurst plated two rear UK spec z1 rear guards for me a few years ago they were both in good condition prior the rechrome ( rot free ) they came back looking very nice but within 18 months the chrome was blistering, peeling, had them both redone but the same thing happened.

Re: Chrome Etc
I understand that many of the Rivet counters out there will cringe at this & if it's a full restoration .....well of course we all know "it ain't right ! " If it's a real bike though & your gunna ride & use it WELL - You can get some really nice Powder Coating done for a fraction of the cost of chroming (... which often will still has floors & pits & can peel & rust in no time ) .........i.e. theres some lovely Nice Silver's or shades of grey which look fine on mudguards & even rims etc etc and certainly it will last longer & be tougher and more user friendly in the long run ! Just a thought thats all calm down ....go & sit down & ave a Cuppa Tea ! haha
Re: Chrome Etc
both rims for £160 seems a bargain. the rest are all about average for current chrome prices.
