Carb split-back issues

#1 PostAuthor: Gonzo » Sat Jun 17, 2017 7:31 pm

I recently had my z1000 serviced with the carbs being balanced and the shims all checked and made right but I still get spit-back occurring. I asked my mechanic why and he said that it's probably worse when the engines cold, which it is and that with a standard air-box it probably wouldn't occur? As these aren't easily attainable, I'll stick with my pods. However today, in the rather hot & humid conditions, the bike didn't do it at all but the other evening, while coming back from Loomies and when the air temps had dropped, it was spitting-back like a mother fucker in the cooler, damp air. So, my question is; does the extra, cooler air flooding the carbs contribute to this symptom while it wouldn't be as bad when air temps are extra warm?

If its got individual filters you may need to up-jet it a little. One size up on the pilots will likely cure what is a fine balance between lean running when cold and the co-responding over-richness that the choke provides temporary relief from.
