BT45s Vs TT100s

My Z900 is fitted with BT45s and seems to follow white lines and any imperfections in the road - tyre pressures are set at 28/32.

I understand TT100s are available and were the tyres to have back in the 70s/80s - but would TT100s improve matters as I had no issues back then that I recall, what's the general opinion of the 'modern' versions?

I run slightly larger sizes on my A4 - (Front: 100/90-19 Rear: 130/80-18) and having done 1000 miles think they perform great - good enuff to scrape the pegs!

They're what's fitted to the W800 as standard..... and also got some on my W650 with no probs.

They also look better (IMHO) as they were fitted back in the day rather than the modern tread pattern.

I haven't tried the BT45s, but I agree 28/32 is too low.

32/36 is a good starting point, maybe even 34-36/38. See what works best for you.

Always feel rider weight has a contribution,heavier seems better ,together as stated higher pressures for the modern rubber.As far as handling always find taper head bearings and 15 weight oil in the forks seems to help,mind you the state of some of the roads all you seem to do is be looking for the next pothole...Paul J

Thanks for all the feedback - I reset the pressures at 28/32 as per the handbook for a single rider, my weight is about 86kg (13st/5lbs). Been out riding today and upped it to 32/36, which reduced the tyres tracking but it still doesn't quite feel right so will increase gradually until I get it right, or at least as good I can get it.

Useful advice about fork oil weight and taper bearings Paul, I'll look into that, thanks - the rear std shocks appear new and are set on the middle setting, so will experiment with those too.

Thanks Steve - interestingly I spoke with a Z1OC member at a local bike meet last night who is running the handbook settings (28/32) with no major issues.

The head-race, and wheel bearings all seem ok, so maybe it could be the age of the tyres - will check the date codes but believe they may be a well over 5 yrs old.

Unless you have the same type of tyre the handbook refers to - I would be careful with that recommendation.

My Z1R currently has Bridgestones
36front and 41 rear is the starting point recommendation on that model

(although the best tyres for feel & general performance are Metzelers!)

BT-45's all the way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been running them for 5 years now & push them quite hard & I wouldn't change em for the world ! I run F-30 - F-32 psi & have found that fine here as it's a bit warmer here .......so "Charles Law" dictates that the way to go for me.
