Diode in Z1000R wiring loom

Guys

I've been chasing out the little niggles on my wiring today and last remaining issue is the tail lights.. So they come on when I put it in Park but not when I switch the headlights on. I have power on the red line and power on the red and blue line up until the diode.. I checked the diode was in the correct direction which it is but still won't actually let any power come thru. I checked it for resistance and it's infinite one way and really high in the direction of flow, like 20k Ohms. But is this normal or you think I have a diode issue? I tried removing it and it worked just fine but I'm assuming it's needed. Although not 100% sure why :)

Cheers
Lee

Lee make sure you are using a meter with a diode test facility. Diodes need 0.6 - 0.7 volt before the will conduct. Digital meters in normal resistance mode usually wont read.

If you have 12v to the anode (red and blue to the diode) and nothing at the cathode end, try bridging the diode with a piece of wire. If the bulb lights it would tell me the diode is fubared!

Not very helpful Lee but the J has one and its to stop the feed from the rear light feeding back to the loom or ignition switch or something like that i was told by my mate.
It is needed on a standard set-up and if yours is 'donald ducked' i have one i no longer need.

Al.
P.S. it only goes in one way as the standard loom has different connectors for each end!!!!!!

I think it's to stop voltage feeding back into the fuel guage, but I'm not sure about that, I did work it out about 9 months ago when I was trying to sort out my standard loom (soon gave up on that rat's nest)
I also have one if you need one, pretty sure mine is ok.

Hi Guys, very helpful info, problem now solved!

I found a meter with a diode tester and it seemed to be ok, but not testing in the direction I expected. So I took the one off the original loom and tested it and confirmed. So the Diode in the PMC loom was wired the wrong way round. Anyway no big issue problem solved.

Cheers
Lee

Haha no worries Dave. It surprised me too, seemed unlikely! I will unwrap it from its heat shrink sometime and double check what it says on it. Rest of the loom was no issues so can handle a niggle.
