Vacuum taps

#1 PostAuthor: davido » Sun Jul 09, 2017 2:39 pm

Fitted a second rebuild kit in my 1000CSR fuel tap a couple of weeks ago. Discovered a pool of fuel under the bike again today.Taking off the tank,the fuel is pissing out all over the place in both 'On' and 'Res' positions.Agin!
Ive read that this is a common fault with old Kawasaki vacuum taps.
Is it worth persevering with it? Could I change it for a manual tap? What about a Pingel?
Any opinions,comments,suggestions appreciated as Im well stuck.

P.S. I refurbished the tap with help from this;

I fitted a Suzuki GS (750) tap. They are available direct from Suzuki brand new and are not very expensive. Sorted my Z650 issue
Why do I persist in debating with idiots ? I really should know better :)

Taps are common to a lot of models you should be able to buy a brand new one with a bit of searching

Similar problems encountered with the vacuum tap on my z1000 A2.
I fitted a pingel adapter which I got from the States - plus
a z1000 a1 / z900 style - on/off /reserve style tap which I got from j Browse

I still have the original tap for the a2's next owner but I will not be using it!

aftermarket kits are a waste of time you can still get the genuine parts

HI, I RECON IT'S HORSE'S FOR COURSES !!!! VACUUM TAP IS GOOD IN THE EVENT OF A STICKY FLOAT NEEDLE OR DUFF FLOAT SEAT = NO HYDRAULIC LOCK OR 5 WEIGHT ENGINE OIL ( =FUEL CONTAMINATED & TRASHED BEARINGS ) & THERES ONLY A SINGLE LITTLE DIAPHRAGM TO REPLACE IF IT FAILS !!!! PERSONALLY I SEE THEM AS A PRACTICAL IMPROVEMENT =GLASS HALF FULL.
