Can anyone recommend a good, reliable company to rechrome a pair of Z1 wheel rims?
If anyone has had a bad experience of one then that would also be useful info.
Cheers Steve

I have just paid for a batch with Ashford so I guess I should be getting it back within a few days. The whole process from quoting through order acknowledgment and completion was slick and professional. They were obviously very busy but I was kept informed of progress throughout. The proof of the pudding will be the quality of work - I will post pics of before, afters and costs when it arrives. I also have a batch of zinc plating being done that went somewhere else at the same time and they seem to be very busy as well as that has not come back yet.

Chromers tend to be like painters, a bit hit and miss. I've used Marque restore in Coventry and the quality was fine and the price was highish but reasonable. The time it took however was ridiculous and they consider answering the phone a nuisance.
Agbrigg in Leeds are quick and cheap, of the items I send out of twenty I would get one that is a bit disappointing but I find it worth it as you can talk to him and the delivery is great. Call Sean 07815 419885

I used Douglas metal platers in sth London. excellent finish but pricey. turned mine around in 4 weeks.
Bishop is the man to contact there.
As an alternative if your rebuilding wheels Brickwood wheels down in Salisbury offer rechroming as part of there services, I got the rear rim done by them. Quality is good but not quite up to standard of Douglas.

OK as promised - I have just had this batch of chroming back from Ashford Chroming - total cost including postage and VAT was £300 -
The quality of the chrome looks to me to be very good, there are areas 'inside' of some of the parts (chain tugs etc) where it would be difficult to prep the metal that are a bit splatty. I would guess that is to be expected. The original components were sent as they came off the bike and were in pretty poor condition. This is my first ever batch of chroming and in hindsight I think that I would would spend time prepping the components as much as possible myself. Overall I'm happy - Ashford did what I asked at a price they quoted and kept me informed of progress.
The cover in the pic was too bad to plate once cleaned and that was left.
I think that due to the high cost of chroming our expectations are very high but they can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. I would use them again - see what you think.

Niphos Metal Finishing in Crewe, Cheshire have done loads of both nickel and chrome plating for me, and always with perfect results.
Just had a Z1RTC turbo header and link pipe done in nickel for £180 including vat.
