Hi all, does anyone know where/if I can purchase a touch up paint for my 1976 KZ900 in diamond dark green I only need a small amount. I caught the petrol tap on the side panel when refitting the tank the other day. Yes pretty stupid I agree

Rs paints will probably do it but how good a match it'll be is any ones guess. If its original paint it'll not be the same colour now as it was when first painted. If its been repainted during its life it probably wasn't the exact match to original.
If yor lucky enough to have a auto paint wholesaler near you your probably best to take thepanel in to them and ask that they mix a 100mil up for you. My local guys supply RS paints so are quite used to doing small match touch ups.

It's well known that even when new there was a ride range in shades of the same colour from Kawasaki, so getting a 'matching' touch up can be difficult. Add to this if the bike is a repaint then you may be dealing with a car painters 'interpretation' of a 40 year old bike colour.

You could try RS Bike Paints who will send you 'their' mix of Diamond Dark Green, but don't be surprised if it's a shade or two out.

'touch up' and 'paint' are not two phrases that sit well with each other.

Thanks for the info, appreciate touching up not a great idea but I've got a 3/4" scratch on the side panel near the seat and I don't want to get a panel done then need the rest of her sprayed. I'll see a man locally to see if he can match my shade of green

Hi all, I bought a touch up paint from RS paints cost me £8.50+vat and shipping total £19 that's a 25ml pot, like a nail varnish size. Shipping was £7.50 had to be signed for delivery although the courier just left it on my doorstep, it was really well packed though. I've attached a before and after shot, not a bad match but my brush work sucks.

yep the price is ridiculous, but my paint for the Z1000 was pretty good, I had some wee chips where tank had caught headstock, and it took a few coats to bring it back up

If you buy some fine grades of wet6 'n' dry 600, 800 & 1000grit you should be able to flat out the brush marks and then use some Farecla G3 polishing compound followed by some G10. Wet sand it using a block.

With a bit of practice you should be able to make it look pretty good!

I've wet sanded a few scratches out in the past using pretty much the same technique and it does work very well, but this has tended to be on more modern paints. If the paint above is the Original Cellulose it can be quite soft and given Big K's painting methods of the period were not an exact science this paint might be pretty thin as well. So going even slightly to hard with W&D and G3 (which is a pretty aggresive cut) would have you through to the base coat in no time.

I detailed an original untouched NOS Kawasaki tank from the period recently and ran a paint depth gauge over it. The depth was very uneven and pretty scary just how thin it was in places.

flat the brush marks with 2000 then 6000 then use 3m ultra fina or tje very fine farclea equivilent.
