Fuel supply

#1 PostAuthor: wayno » Wed Aug 16, 2017 11:35 am

Hi all, last twice while out on the a4, after a number of miles the bike feels like it needs to go onto reserve (plenty of fuel) turning the reserve on cures the problem so I am assuming that the filter on top of the fuel tap is blocked/knackered. I remember seeing them on ebay or maybe somewhere else but cannot find them anymore, any ideas where/if still available, I know I could try and clean it if it's the problem but as it has to come out then ensuring it's eliminated may save time.

Cheers wayne.

Z900A4 fuel taps are better made than the earlier Z1 type, should be an easy fix.
Buy a fuel tap repair kit, replace all the O rings.
If its the filter, these are hard to get hold of. Was told you could use a lawn mower filter, just a thought.

Fuel lines from fuel tap to carbs are 1/4" internal diameter.

Cheers Adrian but I meant the pipes on the top of the tap that protrude into the tank, normal and reserve pipes,

The brass pipe does measure 6mm or 5.97mm on mine to be exact.

Not tried opening the cap, assumed that as it runs fine on reserve then cap would be OK, will try tho.

Stripped the cap and rebuilt, didn't seem blocked, got a gauze filter from eBay but couldn't find a 6mm one so got a 5mm, too tight but cple min in hot water and it's a tight fit but it's on. Away for a week so try it when I can, fingers crossed.

Wayne.
