1978 Z1000a1 Wiring Harness Routing

Hi all - if anyone has some pics or 'idiot's guide tips' to the correct routing of a new wiring harness on a bare frame I would be grateful. Particularly where it passes through, under or around the frame tubes and battery box. I have pics of the positioning of everything that I took off the frame prior to powder coating but the old harness was a tangled mess at the bottom of a bin liner. Thanks in anticipation.

Could I bump this before it gets lost? Anyone with a z1000a1 that has or could take some pics of the wiring loom placement and where the clips are would be really helpful. Many thanks.

My advice would be to use the pics in the Kawasaki workshop manual , spend a wee bit time looking at all the pics and you should get it right .

I know its no help but I'm in the same boat, my one didn't even have a loom when I got it. All I have been doing is looking at any pictures I can find in workshop manuals and the like.

Thanks Dave - your reply has at least made me feel that I'm not missing something obvious. I know where the components go and where they plug into the harness, I just want to route the harness correctly from the outset to save hassle when everything is on the bike. Just a few pics from members bikes would be useful. The manuals just dont show the detail I need.

I built a Z1-R which will be similar.
There is a video you can pause to see a lot of how the loom goes on -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtAwler4L4wand if you look at the photo story there are a few pics - especially around the battery box components & wiring.
http://www.zedrider.co.uk/z1-r.html. . . all the pics will enlarge if you click them.
Also the Z1000 A1 Assembly & Preparation Manual from Kawasaki can be downloaded free here -
http://www.zedrider.co.uk/service--owners-manuals.htmlGood luck.

Brilliant Mark - that's perfect - and what a top bike. I missed the bloggy rebuild article on zedrider, I think I have a new reference point. Thank you.

Hi - I am just starting the "pull apart" phase of a z1000 a2 refurb. All the sidepanels / tank / tail is off and the carbs pulled. It seems to be all the original loom and electrics. I probably have reasonable views of everything - let me know what you need and I'll photograph when I'm next in the shed.

That's fantastic thanks Graham - I just need to see where the deviates under or over the frame. Routing under the tank and up through the headstock.

Hi again - sorry for the delay, first time back in the shed this week. So - had a good look at where the loom goes and took the following picks which seemed to be the main parts you might be interested in. Hope it helps

Glad to be of service - you caught me spot on time. My old original wiring is headed for the bin so I have a question. Have you sourced a new loom for your project? If so, any advice on good suppliers ? I supposein a way I should take it in myself and build a replica.... hmmm
Any tips most welcome
