Could someone advise please.
I have fitted new replacement tapper roller bearings in the steering head.
When I lock the nut tight the side to side movement goes tightish but does not lock fast, is this correct ?
How much should the nut be backed off, If I back off 1/2 turn the steering head cap goes loose ?
Thanks for any advice.

Re: Head Bearing Advice
From memory, you're supposed to tighten tapered head bearings to a certain torque, initially they will feel tight but will bed in, but I don't think I've fitted a set for 10 years

Re: Head Bearing Advice
There should be no play in any direction with new bearings fitted unless they are the wrong size on the stem.
Is it possible that the seats are not fully home in the frame yet and each time you tighten them it just pushes the outer race a little further in .
Taper rollers are notoriously hard to adjust correctly for the uninitiated but that usually results in the bearings being overtightened.

I supplied a standard SSK400 30x48x14 30x52x17 kit which should fit Steve's Z1A. Unless someone knows different?
Steve, good luck with the rebuild mate. Even if you remember where everything goes she probably won't go back together as quickly as she came apart. Why is that guyz?
Re: Head Bearing Advice
All fits fine, the kit is correct
Just expected it to lock if fully tightend.
Decided to tighten untill nut stops and then back off quarter turn.
seems good at that
Thanks all
